I keep lying there awake at night, expecting my wife to roll over at any moment and tell me, "It's time." I was happily anxious about Mel's birth. This time, I'm only anxious. I want to be happy about it, but I'm having a hard time looking forward to it. I feel like such a horrible father for feeling that way. Ugh.

I know when the child arrives, it will be awesome and I'll love it completely. But, today, I'm not in love with the idea at all... :(

    • Baby's coming soon

Not much more to say besides that. Presently going out of my mind preparing the house for the new arrival. I'm wondering/worried if our basement will be done in time.

Looking at the numbers, we're officially broke again. It only took us a year or so to become broke all over again. Need money... Hopefully my wife warms to the idea of cloth diapers and she's able to breast feed for many months. Ugh.

How can we possibly be less ready for another child when we did so great preparing for the first? Well, at least the last 2 years were nice... Time to throw out everything we knew and start over again!

    • Baby's due in about a month

We did the final ultrasound last week and saw our new baby. It wasn't all that pleased with the intrusion and kept turning away from the "camera". We don't have the scanner hooked up right now, so I can't post any of the pictures. (They're not that great this time, anyway).

As we did last time, we did not find out the gender. But my wife and I are getting more and more curious to find out what it is, so I'll leave it up to you to guess/predict/divine: Are we having a boy or a girl?

    • Loss of consciousness...

Yesterday I had to go in for some tests that included pulling seven vials of blood. I started feeling a bit odd after the fourth vial and told the lady I was losing it, but by then it was too late.

I've given blood many times before and started to black out, but never went full unconscious. But for some reason, it was just enough this time. I was only out for a few seconds, but in that time I saw so many weird things. It was almost like a full dream sequence, just really fast.

It was neat, but I don't want to do that again... Hopefully it won't be seven vials of blood the next time I go in.

I was awoken this morning by a screech. I had intended to sleep in a bit since I had a long week, but this wasn't my alarm going off and it wasn't a car outside. No, this screech came from the master bathroom.

It pleases me to announce it to you all first: We're going to have another beautiful baby!

That's great news, but we're in a decent amount of trouble... You see, Sara's birthday is in December. Melanie's birthday is 3 days later. And, according to some quick calculations, the next one will be due in the last half of December. Oh yeah, and my birthday is in March. So now, that means that I have a second "birthday present" baby on the way that will also share a birth month with its mother. It looks like December will just be one huge birthday month for our house.

We were being careful, but I suppose we weren't careful enough... This is a blessing, that's for sure, but life suddenly got 10x more difficult than it was yesterday.

    • Surprise Earthquake!

      CiQuat Woop woop

I’m a Midwesterner - always have been. I’ve never lived outside of a 200-mile radius centered on St. Louis. Needless to say, the only thing I’ve ever known about earthquakes is the back-of-the-mind fear of the New Madrid fault (which I lived directly over for about 6 years). So waking up this morning at 4:37am came as a definite surprise.

At first, I thought my cat was at the foot of the bed having a scratching fit. She’s done it before - she gets an itch and ends up shaking the whole bed from her vigorous scratching. So I looked up to shoo her away but she wasn’t there. Then I noticed that the picture frames and our dresser mirror were lightly bouncing against the wall. I immediately alerted my wife to grab the baby and wait near the front door in case anything else happened. I rushed to get dressed and ran to join them.

We live above a series of old, poorly-maintained coal mines. There have been regular reports in this area of mine subsidence and houses suddenly falling 6 inches or even more. I was afraid that the mine under us was collapsing and we had just seconds to escape our home. As the rumbling came to an end and our house hadn’t sunk, I turned on the radio to see who else may have felt it. Within minutes, stations were breaking programming to let us know that there had been an earthquake. I guess you could say I was relieved to know that my house was safe.

I’ve heard reports it was felt as far as Chicago, Iowa, Missouri, Cincinnati, Louisville and other places. How many of you were awaken with a shake this morning, too?

This morning, we've already felt 2 aftershocks. They were just about as disturbing as the original earthquake, but I believe that's mostly because I haven't fully recovered from the first shakes. I hope my wife isn't freaking out too much at home.

For the last few days, I've been having a decent, but manageable, amount of pain in my back. I figured I was just sleeping poorly. But around 4pm yesterday, I began to experience what I can honestly describe as the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life. I felt like I wanted to rip my groin off of my body and tear out my insides. Well, I would have if I wasn't doubled over crying and laughing from pain.

Yes, I said laughing... The pain was so bad, I was delirious. I was flopping between crying, laughing, and experiencing a small easing of the pain. It wouldn't go away and it was only getting worse, so I ended up having my wife take me to the ER.

After an excruciating 10 min drive, we arrived and I was admitted pretty fast. They helped me to a table, shoved the IV into my hand and hooked me up with morphine and another pain med I'd never heard of before. That wasn't too bad. Eventually the pain stopped and they ran me through a CT scan. What it found was a surprise to me... a kidney stone!

But this is no ordinary kidney stone. This sucker's 5mm by 9mm - a kidney boulder! No wonder I was in so much pain.

We ended up staying in the ER until about 1 am while I was pumped literally full of fluids. They had me drink 2 bottles of water and they put 3 full saline IV bags into me. They're trying to flush this thing out, but it's not working. It's still in there, and they said if it doesn't come out today they might have to go in and get it. OUCH! I have to say "no way" because that's an exit-only hole in my body...

Today I'm going to have to drink as much water as I can to try to push it on its way. Unfortunately, my wife accidentally took my wallet with her and now I don't have money, my drivers license, or (more importantly) my insurance card. That means I'm stuck with Advil for my pain relief instead of the vicodin they prescribed. That's going to suck. On top of that, our town's under a boil order so once I run out of bottled water, I have to boil my water for at least 5 minutes to make sure it's potable. *sigh*

So today I sit and wait for the pain to return. Until then I'm just going to do my work that I sent home with myself this weekend and drink lots of water. Since I'm at home, but I will be able to stay on here a bit longer as long as I can get my work done, too. There will be a puzzle sometime today.

      Sitting here, tired.
      I hear it dripping,
But that is not my reward.

      My eyes are closing.
      This isn't good.
Why isn't my coffee done yet?

      Warm and soothing;
      Brown and bitter.
But still awaiting that first cup.

      Oh what torture
      To lack the consciousness
That can only come from java.

      What's this I hear?
      No more dripping?
I sip the dew of this new day.

      Good Morning!

Since Blake and Matt have completed major development on version 1.5, which is a beauty, it's time to start thinking about what little they may have missed. (Please keep in mind that it's up to the discretion of RT and CG to approve and develop the requests, so don't get hurt if they don't choose to implement your ideas.)

And for the sake of all who matter, please read the thread to make sure your request hasn't already been posted. If you like a specific idea, you can "vote" for it by modding the post, but there's no need to fill this thread with a bunch of duplicates that Blake and Matt will have to wade through.

Please also remember that the better worded and thought-out your proposal is, the more likely it is to be well received. In other words, don't just spam this thread with random ideas, but contribute in a positive manner that could actually help this site grow and become even more functional.

Turn him in to eBay and contact the FBI and BSA

Unforntunately, he's supposedly in England (Customs sticker agrees, though). And didn't put a return address on the envelope.
Any idea what the British equivalent of the FBI is?
