My aunt died last night. She'd had a stroke and heart attack on Tuesday after a couple years of various medical complications due to diabetes and not taking good enough care of herself.

She really was too young. Even though she was only 49 or 50, she always seemed far older to me. I guess that was a side effect of the years of neglect her body suffered.

I was always her favorite. She didn't have any children of her own, so I was her boy. I was told last night that she used to always call me porkchop, but I cannot remember that nickname. She gave me the largest of all my stuffed animals - a green dinosaur I named "Dino." It was so big that at the time she got it, I was able to walk upright under its head and neck. I wasn't very old, but that thing was nearly 3 times my size. I used to sit on its back and lay on its neck. After many years of loving abuse, his nose now rests on the floor with his neck broken by years of me on him. I still have Dino, although he now resides at my parents' house.

I was there last night at the foot of her bed when she died. She was alive, but she wasn't there. The stroke had pretty much cut her off from the rest of the world. Her breathing was very labored and uneven, she had a high fever, and her pulse and blood pressure were dropping from the moment I arrived. Almost everyone else was in the waiting room when she went. I was the first to notice the heart monitor's alert - it was silent, but the screen showed me everything I needed to know that she was leaving. I feel a little guilty that I didn't run to get everyone else, but I was frozen.

She went without pain. You could tell by looking at her that she was completly uncomfortable and struggling, but when she died she did so quietly and in the middle of an easier breath than she had had in days. She had told us before this happened to not hook her up to machines - that she would go when she went. I'm sure they could have revived her, but she (and the rest of us) did not want that.

Her husband is taking it relatively well. Everything had already been taken care of: house is paid off, they already paid for her funeral in full, insurance will fully cover her medical expenses. Today they're making the final arrangements for a funeral that will likely happen on Monday. I just hope my family can let him have this moment and not try to take it over for him.

I'm ok. For the first time in my life, I'm finding true comfort in my faith. I was able to lead the whole family in prayer over her. Watching her die was unsettling, but I know she went peacefully and that comforts me. She was really excited when I announced to the family a couple years ago that I would be entering the ministry full-time and I owe it to her (and God, of course) to get back into action and complete this. I know she would hate it if I didn't.

Aunt Connie, I love you. I know you are feeling no more pain. Let God wrap his arms around you and comfort you. Go home and wait for us; we are never far behind.

I like that image. I wonder if they make it as a t-shirt. Gotta love old school games like Battleship.

      That's pretty interesting.
Basically, that guy was hurt by the fact that the seller chose a bad UPS Store (a UPS Store isn't UPS, actually... UPS Store is still technically Mail Boxes Etc). What's supposed to happen in the UPS Store mediates over the whole deal... they talk to UPS, see what's going on, whether the insurance claim was accepted or not, etc. UPS puts up a hard facade for the customers, but if they like you enough they're willing to almost bend over backwards (We messed up and shipped to packages to the wrong addresses, and UPS fixed it for us). Basically, if the store had done what it was supposed to and not gone out of business, he'd have his AMP back.

Too bad there wasn't a little more exposure to this one to help separate the water from the sky. That plus a portrait layout instead of landscape would make for a drop-dead gorgeous photo.

      From here
I'll agree with that. The problem is for night photos, my camera goes on auto, and just takes the picture (The max manual shutter speed is around 3 seconds, not nearly enough for even that picture). I'm not quite sure how it in portrait would have worked out, though. smiley2.gif

      ...oh. ha ha.

Yeah, I have to keep mine seperate too. If I move one in I gota move one out. My fireman's doing better than my cop simply cause he doesn't need to waste AP searching for ammo. In Dulston I'm two clicks above the DvB HQ in a PD searching for ammo. I'm up to 5 pistols.

but yeah, your drawings look good. straight lines are hard, harder than people think.

    • Preezerk

Cool. I've got three main characters.

      Moeparker: Cop in Dulston
The Good: Fireman two clicks east of Duston
Wesley Wyndham Price: Scientist in the bottom right. He can revive.

It's just really handy having people that can ask for and give help to all be in the same place. Plus if you get killed it doesn't take much to go "need a revive at X building!" So people in DvB that get killed don't stay a zombie long.

My zombie character is in craiger mall in darvall heights, there's 1000 of us just standing there ready to kill survivors that come looking for trouble. I'm planning on saving all of his xp to get human skills though. and because I'm standing in a hoarde of >500 zeds the chances of even taking damage is <1%. How awesome is that?

I was going in the back door to Parker hall and happened to notice it, they're tearing down ME Annex. They have half of the front tore off. You can see stair wells and inside of rooms. It's like a WW II building durring the bombing.

This doesn't measure their service or customer support, but my current plan, 1and1's cheapest ($3/month) gives me more HDD space and bandwidth than ASmallOrange's largest plan ($30/month)

    • reedmon29

Eeek! I've heard nothing but bad things about 1 and 1.

Really? That's weird. Everyone I asked loves 1and1. I already rented a server from them for my mother, though, and didn't have any problems. It's only a 6 month contract, so we'll see how it goes.

    • reedmon29

Oh yeah, and since when is a ton 13 lbs?!?

Since I weighed the UPS. Weight apparently is more density than pure weight... I can lift a 50lb package with very little difficulty, but this 13lb tiny box takes a lot of effort to port around. I guess it's mostly mental... you see something that small, and figure it must be easy to carry.

It's not so much the 7 days part that bothers me. I could easily see that being symbolic. But the Bible specifically says God designed all of the creatures on the planet, and created man in His own image - where does that fit into evolution?

    • herbius

Where would you like your mod points delivered?

    • reedmon29

Yeah, it seems people have this totally steril idea of UPS. No body abuses packages, no body would think of stealing the stuff.
We used to mark packages worth $1000 or more (High value... they get treated differantly in transit. Just giving something high insurance usually means it'll be put on the fast track) with a dollar sign or something like that, but that made the packages a target. Now we... do something else.

And a tip, never ship fragile stuff around Christmas. During Christmas, UPS hires hundreds of seasonal helpers. Guess what? They're working for only 3-4 weeks anyway, so they don't care about "being bad" or anything. And marking a package "Very Fragile" or throwing lots of "This side up" stickers on it just makes the package a target too.

    • reedmon29

There's a bit to the story I didn't tell, like my manager telling her about the insurance stuff.
He kinda threw it to me when it was all said and done, so all I did was my standard "Is this worth more than $100?/Do you need more than $100 of insurance" line, which she replied, "Not really".
The thing isn't going to get broken, it happens but it doesn't happen that rarely. Besides, we threw peanuts in it. Peanuts are packing gold.
The idea is that anyone could steal that and it would cost $100, that's it. I'm used to people shipping stuff like routers, shoes, equipment, stuff worth much more than $100, but that stuff isn't so much "cash equivalent" as an XBox 360 is. You're less likely to steal a Nike SuperDuper Shoe than a diamond ring, which is why you need to insure the diamond ring and not nessesarily the shoe.

      Hey, remember this?

Kids?!? Oh, please don't. For the sake of all that is good and right with this world, don't!
